How much of Christian Relief Services’ money goes directly to its programs and how much is used for administration?

In 2010, 77.55% of Christian Relief Services’ total expenses went directly to program efforts while 20.83% was allocated to fundraising and 1.62% to management. Christian Relief Services relies heavily upon fundraising to acquire the funding for its programs; therefore, must spend enough money on these efforts to ensure our programs receive enough money to allow their dedicated staffs to keep up their good work. We do, however, reduce fundraising costs in any way possible so that as much money as possible goes directly to where it is needed most. We have been fortunate enough to be able to keep fundraising expenses down despite the recent hike in fundraising costs due to the economic recession.

I would like to donate money to a specific project. Is that possible?

From time to time, large donations are designated by the donor to benefit a specific cause, and we do our best to accommodate these specifications. For the most part, however, our generous donors understand how much time and money are required to designate each donation to a specific cause and, they trust our judgment and allow us to determine where their contributions are needed most.

How effective are you really?

Our programs stress the vital importance of partnership. Long-term progress, both in the United States and around the world, is not the result of a one-sided donation—it is the result of commitment, and an unrelenting partnership between the Christian Relief Services family and the private citizens around the world that make our efforts possible. The communities that we support keep us updated on their needs and we do everything in our power to help them achieve their goals. Because all of our programs are community-based, we are able to adjust our efforts to meet the changing needs of these communities to provide them with the most effective assistance possible.

Is corruption a problem in your work?

Every Christian Relief Services program has a personal rapport with the communities/partner programs with which they work. This personal connection, coupled with necessarily transparent program management procedures, allows for effective, corruption-free efforts. Christian Relief Services and all of its partners are passionately dedicated to our work and work together effectively and efficiently to achieve our goals.

Are you a Christian organization?

Christian Relief Services is a Christian-led organization founded upon the Christian belief that it is one’s duty to help those less fortunate than themselves. Our programs are born of Christian ideals, but are non-denominational in nature. Our programs are in no way an effort to convert persons of different faiths, nor do they exclude any needy person based upon their faith. We offer much needed assistance to persons of all faiths and our staff and board of directors are composed of Christians and non-Christians, lay and clergy.

In today’s world where economies are failing and people everywhere are suffering, how much of a difference can your organization really make?

It is true that the world today presents a fairly daunting plethora of problems in need of fixing, but it is organizations like Christian Relief Services that are truly making a difference. Our programs are integrated into their communities allowing for a focused, personal approach to aid-giving. Through these programs, we provide life’s basic necessities to hundreds of thousands of families around the world each year. The determination and hard work of these families combined with the positive attitudes of Christian Relief Services partner organization leaders has proven to be a dynamic and powerful combination. When focused and leveraged properly and put into the right hands, a little bit of money can go a long way at alleviating poverty in the world, and it is our mission to help achieve that goal of one changed-life at a time.
